President Joe Biden will serve a full four-year term if he is reelected in November, according to the White House .

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre provided a one-word response when asked about Biden's long-term plans.

    "Yes," Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday.

Biden has indicated his intentions in the past, but this is the first time the White House has been pushed on the topic since his debate last month against former President Donald Trump .

Biden, who is seeking a second term, has raised questions among Democrats after the president promised during the 2020 primary that he would be a bridge to a younger generation of leaders in his party.

"His statement stands," Jean-Pierre said earlier this month. "I mean, one of the reasons why he picked the vice president — president, Kamala Harris , is because she is indeed the future of the party. And he's very proud to have partnered with her and continue to partner with her in delivering an unprecedented record for the American people."

"So the transition would happen in eight years in his mind, not four?" a reporter followed up.

"I'm not going to get into speculation from here," the press secretary replied. "But you asked me if, that, his remarks and statements still stands. Yes, it still does."

Biden is in the political fight of his life as he tries to convince Democrats he should remain their presidential nominee after the debate, during which he lost his train of thought and demonstrated other signs of his 81 years of age.
