Braves start west coast trip off with the game of the year

The Atlanta Braves have been playing well lately, ending their most recent homestand by taking two out of three from the Phillies to lead the season series versus the division leader four games to two. The Braves then headed straight to Phoenix for a four game set versus the Diamondbacks before heading to San Diego for three versus the Padres. You would think that winning a game in the middle of the day, then hopping on a plane and heading out west without a day off may lend to some fatigue or jetlag, not boding well for a victory in the next game. That's almost how it played out, almost.

The Braves called on Bryce Elder to start game one versus the diamondbacks, setting up a game two showdown between Chris Sale and Zac Gallen, and Elder pitched well for the most part. Elder went five innings and gave up three runs in a solid effort, only Yilber Diaz pitched slightly better. Diaz went six, while only giving up a solo homerun to Red-hot Austin Riley in the first inning. The Braves were stymied after that though, and could not get another run across until Sean Murphy would tie it in the ninth, by hitting a two-run homerun when the Braves were down to their last out. Marcell Ozuna would end up winning it for the Braves in the eleventh after the Braves and Diamondbacks swapped runs in the tenth, leading to what many are calling the best game of the season thus far. Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael discuss this game, and possible moves that the Braves may make to bolster the team before the 2024 trade deadline.
