CNN Reporter Asks Karine Jean-Pierre If She Wants to ‘Reconsider’ Any Past Statements on Biden’s Health

CNN senior White House correspondent MJ Lee asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre if she wanted to “reconsider” any recent statements regarding President Joe Biden following a chaotic press briefing where multiple reporters clashed with Jean-Pierre on the topic of the president’s health.
“The White House has obviously fielded a lot of questions in recent days about the president’s health, whether the White House has been forthcoming or not about that issue and I just wondered, have the last 12 days made you reconsider any specific statements that you might have made in recent months on that issue?” Lee asked Jean-Pierre on Tuesday.
Jean-Pierre got into a tense back and forth with CBS News correspondent Ed O’Keefe over questions surrounding a doctor who is a Parkinson’s expert visiting the White House eight times in eight months since last year. The New York Times first reported the story following Biden’s CNN debate against Donald Trump .
Jean-Pierre insisted the president has received three neurological tests since entering office and he is not receiving treatment for Parkinson’s. A Tuesday letter from Biden’s physician explained the visiting doctor as an “expert” in a variety of fields who sees a number of patients.
“If I have…said…misled in something that I’ve said or haven’t had the full information, I actually own up to that and I actually I say I will do my best to get you the information. Hence the letter from Dr. Kevin O’Connor , right?” Jean-Pierre said Tuesday, referencing the physician’s letter .
The press secretary called it an “unprecedented time.”
“It has been an unprecedented time. I think you guys can admit that, right? It is an unprecedented time and so we are meeting the moment, a new moment that has never really existed before,” she said.
Lee specifically asked about two past events and whether Jean-Pierre’s answer today would change. One was a 2022 incident in which Biden called out for a congresswoman who had recently died. The press secretary said at the time the congresswoman was simply “top of mind” for the president.
Lee also brought up Biden skipping a G7 dinner last month in Italy, asking whether it was because he was too tired, referencing recent reports that the president is asking for events earlier in the day.
Jean-Pierre insisted neither incident is worth reading too much into, especially Biden calling out for the late Jackie Walorski .
“I would not because honestly I spoke to the president right before coming out that day and that is what the president told me,” she said. “It’s not something that came from me.”
