    National Weather Service confirms that brief EF-0 tornado touched down in Michigan's Thumb on July 5

    (WWJ) The National Weather Service has confirmed that a brief, weak tornado touched down in Michigan's Thumb region last Friday.

    Announcing the findings on Monday, following a survey of the area, NWS said the EF-0 tornado in Huron County had top winds of 75 miles per hour and was on the ground for only a couple of minutes, traveling less than half-a-mile.

    The tornado developed at 4:38 p.m. on July 5, north of Kinde Rd., and then moved east crossing Huron City Road and dissipating in a nearby field at 4:40 p.m.

    No injuries' were reported, according to the the weather service, but there was some damage done to trees and crops.

    NWS thanked Huron County Emergency Management for providing photos of the damage, which helped surveyors in confirming the tornado.

    The tornado hit as severe weather was rolling through the area, and NWS said in a weather alert that reported a funnel cloud forming. There was a Tornado Warning in effect for Northeastern Huron County, which expired at 5:15 p.m. that evening.
