    Lup USB-C Cable: $25

Donovan Wallace, VP of electronic design at Design 1st — with 30 years of experience developing electronic devices — shared that you get what you pay for when it comes to the basics.

“Even though the USB-C connectors look the same, how the cable is designed, the components chosen and the manufacturing quality will impact performance and longevity,” he said. “If you bend a cheaper cable or make too many connections, it may stop working, whereas the Lup can be coiled, put in a bag, transfer data at over 480Mb/s and come with a warranty.”

    Sony Wireless Earbuds (WF-C500): $125

Wallace is a fan of investing in high-quality earbuds from brands you trust.

“You can buy wireless earbuds for $20 up to $500. The price difference is reflected in performance and quality,” he said. “Cheap earbuds have barebones design and low-quality components. They are mass-produced and may work well out of the box, but they are worse off in terms of connectivity, battery life, and lifespan.”

Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Lamp: $649

Erin Lawrence of Tech Gadgets International is a professional technology and gadget reviewer who has reviewed over 1,000 products since 2019. She was initially skeptical about this high-priced desk lamp but found it to be worth the investment.

“After spending several weeks with it, I have to say this one is absolutely worth the money,” she said. Lawrence highlighted the lamp’s automatic daylight adjustment feature: “Automatic daylight adjustment uses your location to automatically adjust the color temperature of the light based on the time of day and the time of year.”

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Robot Vacuum: $1,000-$1,600

Lawrence also recommended investing in a high-quality robot vacuum package.

“Having reviewed dozens of robot vac-mops, I think the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo is the best splurge, because it’s a wise investment and it works extremely well,” she said. “It combines a smart, capable and clever robot vacuum and mop that, in my testing, performed very well on floor cleaning tasks.”

Kamado Joe Konnected Joe Smart Charcoal Grill: $1,500

For people who love a summer cook out, Lawrence suggested this smart grill as a worthwhile splurge.

“I am in love with the Kamado Joe Konnected Joe smart grill,” she said. “This smart connected grill will quiz you via the app about what type of meat you’re cooking, and then it will help you dial in the perfect temperature. It uses a probe to check the temperature of the food, as well as an internal thermometer to ensure the grill isn’t too hot or cool.”

While these products are pricy, the experts argue that they’re more than worth it. As Wallace said: “Expensive electronic devices prices bake in quality control, higher-quality components, supply chain traceability and rigorous product design, which makes them work well.”
