VENTURA COUNTY, California (KMID/KPEJ) – A mountain lion cub was released back into the wild after being hit by a car late last year and spending seven months in rehabilitation at the San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona campus.

The Society said the then five-month-old male was brought to them on Thanksgiving and was treated for a hind-leg tibia fracture, as well as dehydration and malnourishment.

The cub was monitored on cameras for several weeks at an indoor hospital enclosure with limited human interaction. It was then moved to an outdoor enclosure for “continued rehabilitation.”

The cub was released by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on Wednesday, June 26, outfitted with a satellite GPS collar to “help ensure his future health and wellbeing.”
