Indiana U.S. Rep. Andre Carson continues to support Joe Biden's presidential campaign

Indiana U.S. Rep. André Carson said he continues to support President Joe Biden’s campaign for a second term in the White House despite calls from some Congressional Democrats for Biden to step aside following his debate performance last month.

Carson, who represents Indiana’s 7th Congressional District covering most of Marion County, is one of Indiana’s top elected Democrats. The Congressman said in a statement his support for Biden has not changed.

“President Biden’s first term has led to monumental economic growth and recovery, with record breaking investments in the middle class,” Carson said in the statement. “I support our president and urge our party to get back to our shared goal: defeating Donald Trump.”

Carson and U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan are the only two Democrats representing Indiana in Congress. Mrvan, who represents the 1st Congressional District in northwest Indiana, did not respond to questions from IndyStar about Biden.

Biden on Monday sent a letter to Congressional Democrats saying he remains “firmly committed” to staying in the race. House and Senate Democratic caucuses met Tuesday in Washington D.C. to discuss Biden's candidacy.

Carson and Mrvan are both running for reelection in November. Carson is set to face Republican opponent John Schmitz and Mrvan will face Republican Randy Niemeyer.
