Over 7,000 LGBTQ singers have arrived in Minneapolis as a five-day choral festival is set to begin Wednesday.

The Gala Choruses Festival is set to host just under 200 concerts throughout this week as they celebrate 49 years of music.

Miriam Davidson is on the board of directors for the event and says this year marks the festival's return after a eight year hiatus due to the pandemic. Davidson says she couldn't be prouder that it's behind held in Minneapolis.

"Minneapolis is a great city very supportive of the arts," says Davidson. "That is one of the few places that I know that gives a significant portion of the annual state budget to the promotion of the arts. And the performance halls here are top notch."

Davidson says while their core mission is to give a platform to their members, it's also to give musical resources to the greater community.

"There's all kinds of resources for every member of a choir, whether they're a singing member, whether they're a board member or whether they're a volunteer and just love to be around the vibe, around choral music or participate and help support the people who are singing," she says.

Free performances will take place in Peavy Plaza with ticketed events throughout the week scheduled at several hotels across the city, Orchestra Hall, and Central Lutheran Church.

You can find more information on the performances here.
