The Stahly’s: a multigenerational 4H family

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – For the Stahly family, 4H is something that has become a part of their identity.

The mother and 4H alumni Michele Stahly said the values it instills is the foundation they want their children to have.

“4H is really important to the family,” she said. “It builds so many leadership qualities, responsibilities, and you learn about things that are outside of the normal school environment.”

However, the activities are what the Stahly kids love the most.

“We get to spend time with each other and learn about animals and look at how people worked hard on their projects in the exhibit hall,” said the oldest daughter, Maggie Stahly.

Both Maggie and her sister Molly have projects including cookie dough, pillowcases, and educational poster boards about goats, soil, and clouds that will be showcased at the state fair later this summer.

Even with their success, they enjoy seeing everyone else’s projects just as much.

“I like showing the animals and seeing how hard everyone else worked on their projects,” said Molly Stahly

If you ask them, there is truly nothing better than fair week.

“We have something to look forward to every summer,” said Michele Stahly. “That one week of the year where you get to hang out with your friends that you don’t always see because they don’t go to the same school and all the learning aspects. The children look forward to it, as parents, we look forward to it, and it is nice to see when all of our hard work pays off.”

The family will compete in the goat show Wednesday at 1 p.m. and then in the cattle show Thursday at 10 a.m.
