The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen held a discussion over the city’s dog ordinance during its meeting on Monday, July 8.

The board discussed the ordinance, which Police Chief Shane Gooden said only currently applies to dogs. Gooden stated to the board that the ordinance should be reworded to include rules for other animals like cats. After listening to Gooden’s recommendation, the board decided to work on the city’s current ordinance to include animals in general.

The board also approved a motion to allow the city’s Public Works department to help with a sidewalk project on South Elm and Grant Street by providing labor only. Debbie Hollingsworth reported to the board that the old sidewalks on the property had to be removed because they were in horrible shape. Hollingsworth said the new sidewalk will be 80 feet, and have drain boxes for storm water.

During a closed session, the board appointed Kaleb Dillon as interim Public Works Superintendent.
