Tonight features partly cloudy skies with the risk for an isolated shower or two possible, mainly before midnight. It’s a very muggy night on the way, with low temperatures only dropping into the low 70s. Expect patchy fog in a few spots.

Wednesday is a hot and muggy day on tap, as the remnants of Beryl scoot by up to our north. Though the system itself will miss our region, the proximity of the former tropical system will give us a few scattered showers and storms as an associated cold front passes through during the afternoon. The abundant heat and humidity will be enough to spark a few showers and storms in the afternoon. Most of us won’t see much rain, but any rain helps at this point with high temperatures in the mid 80s. Cooler air will work its way into the region behind the front as temperatures overnight dip back into the low to mid 60s.

Thursday provides plenty of sunshine and lower humidity in what will be a gorgeous day! Mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the low to mid 80s with high pressure in control will give us a break from the searing heat we’ve seen over the last several days.

Nearly 3/5 of West Virginia in moderate drought

Friday provides partly cloudy skies with a few isolated showers and storms in the afternoon with a stalled frontal boundary over the Shenandoah Valley with highs returning to the mid 80s. With the front located in Virginia, areas in our eastern counties will be the spots most likely to see a downpour or two, while our western counties should remain dry.

Saturday brings more heat and humidity and that will pop a few isolated to widely scattered downpours for the afternoon. Though storms will be widely scattered, they could produce locally heavy rainfall, as they won’t be moving quickly. Just as on Friday, the best chance for a storm or two will be in the mountains, with a stalled frontal boundary still draped over the Shenandoah Valley. In the meantime, it’s a hot day with high temperatures in the upper 80s.

Sunday continues to provide the risk for an isolated shower or two in the afternoon with the building heat and humidity with high temperatures around 90 degrees. Heat index values will likely be in the low to mid 90s.

Monday continues the heat and humidity trend – it’s a touch hotter even, as the mercury will flirt with 90 degrees for high temperatures and afternoon isolated showers and storms still possible.

How to protect your body from the heat this summer

Tuesday keeps the heat cranking with isolated to scattered thunderstorms with high temperatures near 90 degrees.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we’ll have a few scattered showers and storms likely on Wednesday into Thursday with temperatures in the 80s. The peak of the heat will have passed but the risk for scattered showers and storms will continue. High pressure returns on Friday and brings more sunshine back into the area with highs continuing to be in the 80s.
