Louisiana could see more mosquitoes, ants, fleas in ‘bugs boom’ this summer

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A study shows that the state of Louisiana could see more pesky insects like mosquitoes, ants, termites, flies and other creepy crawlies this summer.

The Pest Dude analyzed summer temperature predictions and rainfall data to determine which bugs are more likely to be a problem this year.

The Pelican State is known for having brutal summers with high temperatures and humidity. An analysis of the state’s weather shows a warmer summer average with more rainfall.

According to the study, Louisiana residents could see an increase in activity in pests like mosquitoes , ants , termites , flies, aphids, fleas, ticks, beetles, gnats, cockroaches and earwigs. Pest experts said warmer weather and an increase in humidity levels could explain the increase in these bug populations.

Experts recommend using insect repellants, bug traps, preventatives, sealing entry points and seeking professional pest services if needed.
