BUTLER, Ind. (WANE) – After three seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Carroll High School, Ryan Abbott has confirmed to WANE-TV that he is stepping away from basketball to become the new superintendent of the DeKalb County Eastern Community School District pending board approval later this month.

It is a return home of sorts for Abbott, who was the head boys basketball coach at Eastside for nine seasons before taking the Carroll job.

Abbott told WANE-TV he owes a debt of gratitude to the Carroll school district and community, but that the superintendent job was an opportunity he could not pass up.

Abbott went 25-46 with the Chargers, including a mark of 11-14 last season. He also worked as an assistant athletic director at Carroll.
