Tom Kim Gets Sponsors Exemption Into Scottish Open, But Why?

It was reported late Tuesday night that Tom Kim had received a sponsor exemption for this week's Scottish Open. There was only one problem. After his finish last season, and his performance so far this year, Tom Kim was already exempt into the field for the combined PGA Tour and DP World Tour Event.

    What Happened?

Monday Q Info was first on the details and seems to have a pretty good theory about what may have transpired. According to his post, Tom Kim may have simply not committed to the event in time and needed approval to be added to the event last minute through a sponsor exemption.

Of note, Kim will address this in his press conference scheduled for Wednesday. But appears that nothing ominous has occurred and this may have just been a mistake.

This is not the first time this has happened and will not be the last. Fun fact, the Tour players commit to events ahead of time via an app. Michael Kim (no relation to Tom) has admitted he has forgotten to commit via the app along with others. It appears this was most likely just a simple mistake, not necessarily a common one but hey, we all make mistakes. Occasionally a professional golfer forgets to go on their phone and say they plan on playing.
