The Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation and the Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund, both part of the North Carolina Community Foundation, have awarded $13,370 in grants to organizations supporting the local community.

The board of advisors for BHCF granted $5,370 to the following organizations from their community grantmaking fund:

The Women’s Fund granted $8,000 to the following organizations:

$2,500 to Ahoskie Food Pantry for Power Pack program;$750 to the Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund Endowment to grow community grantmaking funds to support local women and children;$750 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Bertie-Hertford Childhood Cancer Safety Net;$1,500 to Dream Hunt & Fishing Program for outdoor adventure and environmental education camps;$500 to North Carolina Symphony for music discovery for Bertie orHertford preschoolers; and$2,000 to Ronald McDonald House of Eastern NC for general operating expenses (for families from Bertie or Hertford counties).

The Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation and Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund gathered with grantees, fundholders and donors on June 25 to celebrate their grantmaking and honor the legacy of the late Wayland Jenkins. Jenkins helped found BHCF, and his legacy of philanthropy continues to be felt throughout the community.

“While the need continues to far outpace the resources available,” said Josh Littlejohn, NCCF’s Community Leadership Officer for the Eastern region, in remarks at the event. “We’re honored and privileged to play a small role in recognizing the humanity and dignity of all of our neighbors.”
