    Renovations Announced For Legacy Homeless Project

    Del Norte Health and Human Services will begin major renovations in its Legacy project, converting the 30 unit motel room Coastal Inn and Suites into permanent housing options for individuals and families. Work is scheduled to be completed by October 24.

    The Legacy is owned by Operation Home Key and administered by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The State purchased the motel in October of 2020 for $1.9 million with an an additional $500,000 for wraparound services and renovations.

    The Legacy is located at 655 L Street, between the 101North and South routes. According to DHHS, the renovations will entail but not be limited to remodeling guest rooms including addition of kitchenettes, remodel the lobby, decommission the pool, demolish the floor in the pool house, add new concrete floor and add a new community space. New fire sprinklers will be added bringing the Legacy up to City Code.

    The Legacy is one of 250 funded projects up and down the Golden State Operation Home Key is projected to serve over 167,000 households during its lifetime.
