Four years of transportation projects are included in the Transportation Improvement Program for Fayette and Jessamine Counties. Members of the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Planning Committee are scheduled to adopt the TIP in late August. Chris Evilia is Transportation Planning Manager for the MPO.

“What we’re talking about here are the more significant roadway construction projects where maybe we’re adding a lane or we’re constructing something new like an extension of Citation Boulevard for instance. That’s in the TIP,” said Evilia.

Evilia said it’s mostly federal money that goes to support the Transportation Improvement Program.

In addition to new roadways, Evilia noted the TIP includes shared-use trail projects in the two counties.

“It is kind of all over but we’re trying to focus on core network of paths. So, building off of Town Branch, and Liberty and Legacy trails that already exist in trying to expand on those,” said Evilia.

Evilia said one proposed shared use trail being studied would run along Red Mile, Virginia, and Forbes roads to connect UK with the Meadowthorpe area.

A public listening meeting is planned July 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Marksbury Public Library Branch.
