Pangaia is furthering its commitment to a more sustainable fashion industry with the release of its latest collection.

This week, the London-based apparel label announced its new linen collection, featuring five different lightweight, breathable 100-percent linen silhouettes like shorts and button-up shirts in five color ways.

Linen is sourced from flax plants, a natural fiber that requires minimal irrigation, pesticides and fertilizers. According to Maria Srivastava, chief impact officer at Pangaia, by diversifying its fiber sources, Pangaia aims to reduce dependence on single crops and promote more sustainable agricultural practices.

Additionally, this eco-friendly approach enables Pangaia , which passed Fair Wear Foundation ‘s Brand Performance Check with flying colors in March, to efficiently utilize all parts of the plant, minimizing waste and environmental impact.

“We recognize the risks of being over-reliant on one fiber, that’s why diversification is an important part of our cotton strategy,” Srivastava told Sourcing Journal. “As part of our natural cellulosic portfolio, we use linen, hemp and nettle as well as exploring alternative natural fibers that contribute to diversification while restoring global soils, maintaining and enhancing biodiversity, thus increasing opportunities for agricultural communities.”

The collection retails for $150-$185 and is available now for pre-order. Orders are expected to ship out in August.

This release follows Pangaia’s Aloe Linen collection, launched in May, which features 100-percent linen treated with aloe vera oil to enhance comfort and softness, making the fabric hypoallergenic, the brand noted.

The collection includes summer essentials like collared shirts with unique double pocket detail, drawstring shorts and linen trousers available in both men’s and women’s fits with elasticated waistbands. Priced between $85 and $185, the line is available on Pangaia’s e-commerce site.

Both collections reinforce Pangaia’s commitment to sustainability in the fashion industry, as detailed in its 2023 Impact Report. The report, launched last month, highlights Pangaia’s progress, successes, challenges and lessons learned in production innovation, material usage, decarbonization and social responsibility efforts over the past year.

“[The report] tells the story of what Pangaia is aiming to do through commercializing responsible innovation to accelerate an Earth-positive future,” Rory Hugill, Pangaia’s senior innovation portfolio manager and project manager of the report, told Sourcing Journal upon its launch. “This is incredibly important for a brand that is best known for its material innovation…We recognize that, as a fashion brand, we have to operate responsibly.”
