This morning, the official details surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 & Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 were revealed alongside other Galaxy devices, including the SWatch7, Watch Ultra, and Buds3 and Buds3 Pro at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked.

On July 3rd, CGM attended an event where Samsung unveiled the latest lineup of a few different weapons in their arsenal. We were treated to a sneak peek of the newest phones, earbuds and watches with their new Samsung Z Series smartphones, the Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, the Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro and the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra.

With such a large lineup, we were given a lot of time to play with all of the new Samsung gear and learn all about some of the newest features available. Here is what we learned about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6.

The Samsung Galaxy Z series phones have made some leaps. They’ve upgraded to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy from the Gen 2 and added some dust protection with a new rating of IP48 from IPX8. The level of upgrade, beyond that, varies from phone to phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has largely stayed the same in its specs with the available 256GB, 512GB and 1TB models, all with 12GB of RAM. The main display is consistent at 7.6”, but the cover display has gotten a slight boost with a 6.3” display. While I can’t confirm the sensors for the Galaxy Z Fold6, the cameras themselves have all stayed the same with a 50MP f/1.8 wide lens, 10MP f/2.4 telephoto lens (with 3x optical but an added 30x digital zoom) and 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens for the main camera cluster, a 4MP f/1.8 under-display camera and 10MP f/2.2 cover display camera.

The camera app can actually pop up and be used alongside other apps. They demonstrated watching a workout video and using the camera’s preview next to it so you can compare your form to the instructors, quite an impressive feat. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 has also gotten a little lighter at 239 grams, 14 grams lighter than the Z Fold5 .

The biggest upgrades seem to have come to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. The display remains the same as the Z Flip5 with a 6.7” main display and 3.4” cover display, and it still comes in 256GB and 512GB models, but both have upgraded from 8GB RAM to 12GB. The battery has also been boosted from 3700mAh to 4000mAh, which is huge, considering the small amount of space within flip phones.

The camera has also gotten a boost. While the selfie camera stays the same at 10MP f/2.2 and the ultra-wide lens remains 12MP f/2.2, the main wide camera has jumped from 12MP to 50MP f/1.8. This a huge improvement that, when combined with a larger battery, will make this a much-improved device, especially for creators.

Samsung also showcased some improved AI features, including a new AI sketch feature that, when sketching in Samsung Notes, can turn even the most crude drawings into art in a number of styles. Its ability to interpret your drawing and even add elements to improve it was impressive.

When I drew a car that was, to be generous, 4th grader-level art, it not only completed the car in a 3D animated look but added a face in the window, something that even surprised the Samsung rep. It also has AI auto-response, where the phones can send a response on your behalf that comes across as more natural than the current templates that you can send when you are busy or driving.

AI translation has gotten even better with these devices. On the Samsung Galaxy Fold6, you can open up notes and turn translation on while transcribing, and it will transcribe in two languages. The AI has no problem keeping up with you and picks out natural breaks in the speech to insert the translated text underneath, all the while transcribing your speech as you continue.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 demonstrated one of my favourite features. With the translation turned on, you can speak with the phone sitting between you and the other speaker (in this demonstration, the phone was folded at 90 degrees on the table). As you speak, the text for the translated language appears on the screen opposite you so the other person can read it, essentially giving you live subtitles.

With everything presented to us at this event, Samsung has shown that they’ve made some pretty big leaps in some areas. We hope to get our hands on all of the devices for more in depth reviews of the products in the future, so stay tuned for that. But in the meantime, we are excited by a lot of these announcements.
