The new Samsung Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro were officially announced today in a pile of announcements coming from the company at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked.
On July 3rd, CGM attended an event where Samsung unveiled the latest lineup of a few different weapons in their arsenal. We were treated to a sneak peek of the newest phones, earbuds and watches with their new Samsung Z Series smartphones, the Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, the Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro and the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra.
With such a large lineup, we were given a lot of time to play with all of the new Samsung gear and learn all about some of the newest features available. Here is what we learned about the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 and Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro.
Of all the announcements Samsung made today, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro are arguably the biggest change from their earlier models. Looking at the old Samsung Galaxy Buds and Buds2 models , they are the stemless versions that nestle nicely into your ear. With the Buds3 series, they’ve adopted more of the Airpod look with the stems and a similar, top-loading case, only with clear lids. Using the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 series with your phone’s AI will allow for real-time translation of a speaker when your phone is set to translate. So when they speak in one language, you’ll hear your language through the Galaxy Buds3.
Both models have upgraded their protection. While the Buds2 series rated IPX7 (capable of being temporarily submerged in water, but with no stated dust protection), the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 series has added dust protection and flaunts an IP57 rating. They’ve also added super-wideband antennas to both models to better pick up your voice (or someone else’s) when speaking).
One thing that has dropped off is the battery size, with the Buds3 and Buds3 Pro sporting a 45mAh and 50mAh battery, respectively, down from the 61mAh of the Buds2 series. The case will provide additional charges with the same size 500mAh battery as their predecessors. Both models come in silver and white.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 earbuds are hard-tipped with no capability for soft tips. They have a 1-way single amp with improved 24-bit/96kHz Hi-Fi sound, doubling the sampling rate of the Buds2. They have adaptive ANC and EQ with voice detection and will auto-switch between ANC and ambient mode when needed. While the battery is smaller, the Galaxy Buds3 are optimized to have the same play and talk time as the Buds2 series with less battery to work with (5 hours of play and 3.5 hours of talk with ANC on).
Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro have a number of improvements on the Buds3, starting with soft ear tips for improved comfort, a 2-way dual amp speaker and auto noise adjustment. Speaking to a representative at the event, the noise adjustment works in situations where ANC is on, but an important sound, like sirens, is picked up. It will let that sound in so you are aware of your surroundings.
On the other hand, if you pass a nearby construction site, it will boost the noise cancellation to remove the newly added noise quickly and efficiently. With a slightly larger battery, you are getting quite a bit more life out of it with up to 6 hours of playtime and 4 hours of talk time with ANC turned on. The last feature of the Galaxy Buds3 Pro is the blade LED running down the stem of the earbuds. It’s a mostly aesthetic upgrade, but it can help in a desperate situation where if you drop one of the earbuds in the dark, you can light up the earbuds to locate them.
