Social media trackers have revealed which golf courses in England are the most Instagrammed.

The data set was limited to only the best courses in England.

    6 Royal Liverpool

Royal Liverpool is a tough links course with little protection from the wind, and there is nothing artificial about the layout.

It represents a traditional, genuine test of golf although it does play far more friendly when the wind isn’t howling.

Royal Liverpool is a course for lovers of the game in its purest form and it comes in as the sixth-most Instagrammed top course.

    5 Royal Birkdale

Royal Birkdale is a famous links course and is widely recognised for its fairness in rewarding consistency.

If you don’t stray from the fairway too often, chances are you will have a great time playing Royal Birkdale.

Royal Birkdale was the last English course to be added to the Open rotation but it has hosted the Major ten times most recently in 2017 when Jordan Spieth claimed the Claret Jug.

    4 St George’s Hill

Amidst the several heathland courses on the Surrey/Berkshire sand belt, St George’s Hill Golf Club is undoubtedly among the most picturesque.

The landscape is the most obvious distinction between the heathland layouts in the region and St George’s Hill.

The terrain veers and undulates like a rollercoaster, and Harry Colt did a masterful job of incorporating these sharp variations in elevation into his design.

    3 Alwoodley

Situated well away from the buzz of city life, the Alwoodley Golf Club near Leeds is home to one of the best and most understated inland courses in the British Isles.

Alwoodley is the jewel of a cluster of fine golf courses that stretch across the moors just north of Leeds.

The course sees heathland and moorland blend, with the result being rippling fairways and fine, crisp, springy turf. The abundant heather and gorse, provide glorious seasonal colour and punishes the wayward shot. The few trees there are do little to guard the player against the wind, other than the occasional cluster of pines and silver birches on a glorious, windswept heath.

    2 Woodhall Spa

The Hotchkin course at Woodhall Spa is set up to rival Loch Lomond and Sunningdale’s Old course for the title of greatest inland golf course in the British Isles.

This heathland course, surrounded by beautiful pine, birch, and broom, is a true pleasure to play. Walking on the springy turf is a true delight, and the sandy subsurface makes golfing possible year-round.

Try your best to stay clear of the gorse, heather, and bunkers while keeping the ball in play and on the fairway.

    1 Sunningdale

According to the data, Sunningdale in Ascot is the most Instagrammed course, boasting 68,569 hashtags for the course name alone, along with 3,588 hashtags for the course name + golf club and 147 hashtags for the course name combined with ‘golf course’, totalling 72,304 hashtags.

The old and new courses at Sunningdale have a tremendous draw with both ranked among the best English courses.

Lined with pine, birch and oak trees, it is a magnificent place to play golf and makes for a great Instagram snap.
