The Edison Electric Institute (EEI), along with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) joined together to celebrate National Lineworker Appreciation Day on July 10.

National Lineworker Appreciation Day, an annual event, honors the nation’s more than 100,000 electrical lineworkers an commemorates the life of Henry Miller, the first IBEW president.

Lineworkers often work around the clock and in dangerous conditions following hurricanes, wildfires, tornadoes, winter storms, and other extreme weather events to ensure that customers have access to safe and reliable electricity.

“Make no mistake, our lineworkers are America’s true heroes, always on the frontlines of every disaster, working 24/7 to keep the lights on in our communities,” IBEW International President Kenneth Cooper said. “Our nation wouldn’t run without them, which is why we take this day to remember their sacrifices and salute their service.”

More than 140 members of Congress also are observing National Lineworker Appreciation Day by co-sponsoring resolutions to honor them.

“National Lineworker Appreciation Day is a significant occasion to recognize the vital contributions of our nation’s lineworkers,” NECA CEO David Long said. “These brave men and women work tirelessly, often in perilous conditions, to build, service, and restore our transmission and distribution infrastructure across America. Their dedication and expertise are essential to our daily lives and our nation’s future. We are proud to honor their commitment and celebrate their crucial role in keeping this country functioning.”

Lineworkers also maintain the energy grid and play a critical role in delivering clean energy.

“EEI and our member electric companies salute our nation’s lineworkers and the incredibly important work they do every day,” EEI President and CEO Dan Brouillette said. “In the face of disaster, lineworkers stand ready to support and to rebuild, dedicating their lives to restoring electricity and hope to the customers and communities they serve. They are heroes, and we are grateful for their commitment to keeping the lights on.”
