Success often breeds hate and many new artists aren’t prepared for the level of vitriol they receive once they start gaining momentum. André 3000 recently gave Sexyy Red advice on how to approach her haters in an episode of LeBron James’ The Shop .

The full episode will not be available until this Thursday (July 11), but, in true Uninterrupted fashion, promotional clips have been circulating on the internet already. In one clip, the St. Louis rapper discusses her critics and how they affect her. “They still don’t believe in me, so I just be like, I’m going to just show y’all,” she asserted. “And like he said, they don’t be understanding. We really came from nothing. And then we be making a big achievements. That’s something for us. And then they just be like, ‘You ain’t doing nothing.’ But for us it’s like, ain’t nobody doing this.”

3K’s advice? Channel that. “But use it as fuel,” he said. “Fuel. Use it for fuel. Hater fuel man. It’s the best sh*t. It’s free energy.” The “ U My Everything ” artist agreed with his sentiment, saying “I like when they talk about me I ain’t gone lie.” He agreed with her, following up with, “Sh*t free energy because that made me go in. I love when somebody doubts you” and she finished his sentence by saying, “Because I’m now finna show you something.”

André 3000 also shared that he caught flack from the late Pimp C for changing the beat to “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You)” after laying down his verse. “Rest in peace Pimp, but I got a story about that,” he began. “Pimp was so mad at me because they sent the beat and I wrote my verse, put my words down and I took the beat out for me to rap.”

He claimed that, upon sending the record back to them, the UGK member went off. “Pimp was like, ‘Man, f**k this motherf**ker, man! This ni**a gon’ gotdamn take my beat out! Like, who the f**k he think he is?!’” Eventually, someone got Pimp to see the magic in what he did. “I don’t know if it was Bun or somebody, they were like, ‘Nah, but you don’t understand, when that beat drop, though, it sets it off.’ So it’s almost like a set-up. So it worked, and once he got that, he was like, ‘Okay, okay.’ But he was so mad at me.”

Perhaps the Outkast member’s changes paid off, as “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You)” was UGK’s only song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 where they were the lead artist, peaking at No. 70. The only other time they appeared on the chart was their feature on JAY-Z’s “Big Pimpin’,” which peaked at No. 18.
