Meagan Good, Jonathan Majors lovey dovey at ‘Divorce in the Black’ Premiere

Stars gathered in New York this week for the premiere of Tyler Perry ‘s latest film, “Divorce in the Black” which drops July 11th on Amazon Prime. The film tells the story of Ava, played by Meagan Good , a young bank professional who navigates the painful journey of divorce after an abusive marriage, only to discover her true soulmate. Radio/TV personality Jazmyn Summers caught up with the stars on the black carpet for Radio One.
In many ways, art reflected life for Good who revealed she drew from her own 2021 divorce from DeVon Franklin to portray Ava’s journey authentically. She said she channeled feelings from her 2021 divorce to help people “feel seen” and “give them empowerment. I want women and men to feel, ‘Yeah, I can do this.’ It seems like something ended, but something beautiful is beginning.”

Good says she has found her soulmate in boyfriend Jonathan Majors who she also attributes her new fit look to. The actress, 42, stepped out in a gown that highlighted her impressive six-pack abs and credited Majors, for her fitness motivation. “Mr. Majors! He works out very, very hard, That’s the added benefit of someone who is consistent. It has changed my life and my physique,” she shared.
The couple, who have been romantically linked since 2023, showed a lot of PDA throughout the evening, dancing and holding hands. At one point, Majors drew a small crowd with his vigorous dance moves.
Good stood by Majors during his 2023 trial for assault and harassment charges, and she has been vocal about their supportive relationship. “The support we’ve been able to give to each other, the pouring into each other, the honest conversations, the love, the respect, just the care, and the thoughtfulness, it’s been really wonderful,” she revealed.
She also clapped back at critics of their union saying, “At the end of the day, I’m the one who has to live my life. I’m the one who has to get to Heaven one day, prayerfully, and give God an account of what I did, So, I want to be responsible for the choices that I make. I want to live the life that I want to live. With who I want to live.”
Richard Lawson who plays the father in the movie revealed that he drew on his past three marriages but especially his union with Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mother, to play a loving husband and father in the movie. And he said despite being divorced , he and Tina are doing fine as friends. “ I’ve known her for 45 years. There will always be love.”

Tyler Perry took a moment to praise 50 Cent , who is building a studio in Shreveport, Louisiana and recently visited with Perry. “I’m so proud of him, he’s amazing,” Perry said. “And he’s blowing it up out of the water.” When asked about a potential collaboration, Perry responded he was down “If he wants to.”
Actors from Tyler Perry’s other productions including Crystal Renee Hayslett, Tony Head, and Nick Barreto joined stars such as Sherri Shephard and Gayle King at the event.
The cast collectively praised Perry’s creativity and commitment to hiring Black talent.. Tony Head, who stars in Perry’s TV series “Zatima,” stated, “he’s a genius.”
“Divorce in the Black” is set to captivate audiences with its powerful message of resilience, women empowerment and the promise of new beginnings. It drops July 11 th on Amazon Prime.
