Motion sickness is never fun. It's bad for the ones who suffer from it, and it's bad for the ones close to them, too. No one wants to be sick, or in the path of someone who is sick, even if that individual is a dog.

On Saturday, July 6th, one Husky mom was willing to try anything she could to help her boy conquer his motion sickness. In lieu of traditional medication, she decided to test out the tried and true, funky looking "motion sickness glasses," and he totally rocked them:

I'm glad that @katherynaltamirno found something that worked for her pup. A carsick dog is the worst!

Not much is known about this dog in particular - the account is mostly for videos posted by his mom. I wish we knew his name, but it's okay: knowing that he's the cutest dog ever in the world is good enough. The other thing we obviously know about him is that he gets carsick.

There are lots of reasons dogs get carsick, ranging from anxiety to a lack of ventilation in the car and even balancing issues. Like humans, dogs have fluid in their inner ear that helps them stay balanced. Riding in a car causes that fluid to vibrate and slosh back and forth, which can create feelings of dizziness and nausea.

The glasses are so funny looking, but they legitimately work wonders. The liquid in the glasses moves as the car does, and it sends a signal to your brain that tricks it into believing you're actually stable. There's the same amount of liquid across four "lenses," so even your peripheral views are stable.

Best Ways to Handle Carsick Dogs

You'll learn pretty quickly how your dog feels about the car, and you should be paying attention. They may not vomit every time, but you'll notice things like shaking, panting, and/or excessive drooling . Whenever your dog gets in the car, you should always put something down to protect the interior. An old towel, a dog bed, or one of those special "dog seats" works!

There are a few ways you can try to reduce motion sickness in dogs:

    1. Prescription medications from the vet.
    2. Open the window or put on the air conditioning for extra air flow.
    3. Try to stop them from burying their heads, as it can make it harder to breathe.
    4. To prevent vomiting , don't feed them for a few hours before your planned car ride.
    5. Get these glasses, apparently (if your dog is big enough).

There's also a chance that dogs grow out of their motion sickness once their vestibular system (which help with balance) is done developing. Typically, this is anywhere from 6-12 months of age . Is it bad that I hope this sweet boy has to wear these glasses forever?
