The National Weather Service at State College has issued a tornado watch on Wednesday for a swath of Pennsylvania, including Centre County.

Encompassing 32 counties in central and northern Pennsylvania, along with parts of New York and Vermont, the watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

A watch means tornados are possible in the designated area. A warning would be issued if a tornado is sighted or indicated by radar.

A few tornados are possible in the watch area, along with isolated hail up to a half-inch in size and scattered wind gusts of 70 mph, according to the NWS.

Centre County also remains under a heat advisory until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, with high humidity, temperatures around 90 degrees and heat index values topping 100 degrees.

Tropical air from the fringes of Hurricane Beryl also poses the possibility of showers or thunderstorms with potentially heavy downpours on Wednesday afternoon, AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tom Kines told StateCollege.com on Tuesday.

More tranquil weather is expected on Thursday and Friday with a drop in humidity and highs around 80. Temperatures around 90 degrees and higher humidity will likely return on Saturday and Sunday. Both days should be mostly dry, but a shower or thunderstorm are possible, Kines said.
