An Orange County sheriff’s deputy was arrested early Wednesday on a DUI charge in Seminole County, the agency said in a press release.

Deputy Thomas Boggs was arrested around 1 a.m. in Lake Mary after a Seminole County deputy noticed his Jeep failing to stay in its lane on Primera Boulevard, according to the arrest report.

Boggs parked his car in a parking lot before the deputy approached him, the report stated. The deputy described Boggs as having glossy bloodshot eyes, slurring his speech and smelling of alcohol. The report said Boggs admitted to the deputy he’d been drinking and had just poured out a beer outside his Jeep. He also told the deputy he would be walking the rest of the way home, the report said.

Boggs twice refused to take sobriety tests, according to the report. The report said after his arrest, two breathalyzer tests showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.239% and 0.243% — far above the legal limit of 0.08%.

Boggs is currently in custody at the Seminole County Jail and has been charged with one count of driving under the influence. His first appearance is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday and his bond was set at $500, according to court records.

“As law enforcement officers, we must be held to the highest standards of conduct whether on duty or off duty,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said in a statement with the press release. “I am committed to ensuring that those who serve the community as Orange County deputies follow the laws that they are responsible to uphold.”

According to the release, Boggs has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2015 in the Uniform Patrol Division. He has been relieved of all law enforcement duties and reassigned to administrative duties while his criminal case is ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internal investigation once the criminal case is completed.

Boggs is the seventh Orange deputy arrested since January.
