Where are this dog's parents? It's summertime, which means that tourists are flocking to national parks all across the country to take in the beautiful sights that the United States has to offer. Unfortunately, that also means that those tourists will be around - or at least in the vicinity of - wild animals. That usually spells trouble for a lot of people. Only because tourists, or the aptly nicknamed "tourons," don't know how to act around wildlife. For some reason, they mistake the words "national park" with "petting zoo," and think that the animals that roam at the outdoor tourist attractions are solely there for the amusement of park goers. That leads to a number of incidents and close calls every year. Here at Whiskey Riff, we're always keeping an eye out for videos of idiots getting too close to wild animals, and the clips aren't usually in short supply. There isn't an exact number for how many accidents involving wildlife happen at national parks, but I think it's safe to say that the unofficial number is somewhere around...
a lot. The video included below shows what can happen when an ill-informed pet owner doesn't respect the roaming beast known as the bison. This footage out of Grand Teton National Park was captured by a tourist who was watching the irresponsibility of another tourist unfold. As a number of people observed a bison herd from a distance, one person there apparently let their pet Husky off its leash. That led to a scary face-to-face encounter between the towering bison and the dog who was just trying to sniff out what the behemoth of animal was. The person that submitted the video to the Instagram account "Tourons of Yellowstone" provided this caption along with it to describe what had happened: "Dog owners didn’t have their dog on a leash in Grand Teton National Park while observing a wild bison herd. Needless to say the husky's instincts kicked in. The massive bison was being a bison. The issue here is the human was doing what humans do: _________. I’ll let you fill in the blank."
Oh fun! A fill-in-the blank... here are a couple of options for what could fit in there perfectly: -Act like actions don't have consequences -Falsely believing that bison are just fluffy cows -Living up to the "touron' nickname https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9LnSCegUqa/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=717f17c0-5fcf-4fc2-828b-3e0d2901cb8e As you can see in the post above, pets are to be controlled at all times when they are on the grounds of a national park. This dog is lucky it didn't get stomped out by the largest land animal in North America, and the dog's owners will be lucky if they don't get tracked down and hit with a fine for not following proper protocols.
