Sharon Stone has been open about her health battles over the years including a stroke in 2001 that left her brain bleeding for nine days. However, she’s never divulged the hit her finances took during her recovery period until now. The dip in her bank account had nothing to do with her inability to work, but it had everything to do with unkind people helping themselves to her money.

Sharing with The Hollywood Reporter that it took her seven years to recover, Stone admitted that “people took advantage of me over that time.” She had saved $18 million from her successful career only to see it “all gone” when she was able to get “back into my bank account.” Shockingly she shared, “My refrigerator, my phone — everything was in other people’s names.” The outlet incredulously asked if she was left completely broke,” and Stone answered frankly, “I had zero money.”

Sharon Stone at “The Bikeriders” Los Angeles Premiere held at the TCL Chinese Theatre on June 17, 2024 in Hollywood, California.

The 66-year-old actress didn’t reveal who stole her money or if she took any legal action, but she “decided to stay present and let go” after the incident. After surviving a life-threatening illness, she didn’t want “to hang onto being sick or to any bitterness or anger” because she was so grateful to be alive. “So, I live for joy now. I live for purpose,” she added.

Unfortunately, Stone’s story isn’t uncommon in Hollywood. Over the years, fans have heard about celebrities like Beyoncé, who have had issues with people stealing from them. In 2011, the pop star suddenly announced that she “ parted ways ” with her dad, Matthew Knowles, on a “business level,” per Us Weekly . It turned into a legal spat between Knowles, Beyoncé, and concert promoter Live Nation, who alleged that her dad “had stolen money from Beyoncé on her most recent tour or otherwise taken funds that [he] was not entitled to,” according to court documents obtained by TMZ. While they’ve since reconciled, it was a harsh lesson learned.

It’s not easy to protect your money, even when you are a millionaire. Celebrities have to watch who is around them because even trusted family members and friends can turn on you.
