Watchmen Chapter 1 Trailer Previews DC’s Animated Graphic Novel Adaptation

The trailer for Watchmen Chapter 1 has been released.

Watchmen Chapter 1 is the new DC animated film that is an adaptation of the popular graphic novel written by Alan Moore, illustrated by Dave Gibbons, and colored by John Higgins.

What do we know about Watchmen Chapter 1?

The original Watchmen comic is set in an alternate reality that opens with the controversial vigilante known as the Comedian being brutally murdered. One of the Comedian’s former colleagues, Rorschach, begins investigating the death and discovers a larger plot involving a number of other mostly retired “superheroes,” including Nite Owl II/Dan Dreiberg, Silk Spectre II/Laurie Juspeczyk, Doctor Manhattan, and Ozymandias/Adrian Veidt.

Watchmen was adapted into a 2009 live-action movie that was directed by Zack Snyder. Written by David Hayter and Alex Tse, the film starred Malin Åkerman as Silk Spectre II, Billy Crudup as Doctor Manhattan, Matthew Goode as Ozymandias, Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach, and Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II.

Watchmen wasn’t a huge hit at the box office, bringing in $187 million off an estimated $130-150 million budget, though it later found success on home video. The film is currently streaming on Max.

In 2019, HBO then released a Watchmen series created by The Leftovers’ Damon Lindelof that is set 34 years after the events of the graphic novel. The series, which is also streaming on Max, stars Regina King as Angela Abar/Sister Night, Don Johnson as Judd Crawford, Time Blake Nelson as Wade Tillman/Looking Glass, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Cal Abar, Andrew Howard as Red Scare, Louis Gossett Jr. as Will Reeves, Jeremy Irons as Adrian Veidt, Jean Smart as Laurie Blake, and Hong Chau as Lady Trieu.

Watchmen Chapter 1 will be released on Digital on August 13, 2024.
