The bear spotted in Chatsworth on July 2 could help build a new wildlife crossing in L.A.

The bear was spotted in a tree after roaming around an industrial neighborhood and was eventually captured by wildlife experts last week .

The bear – known as Yellow 2291 to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife – is an adult female and was already tagged with a GPS collar after she wandered into a trap in Claremont on May 31. After she was captured in Chatsworth, the bear was spotted again in Sylmar.

The Los Angeles Times reported researchers are going to look at the path the bear took and figure out what freeways were crossed. Since she was initially captured, the bear went from the 210 Freeway corridor into the Malibu area, across the 118 Freeway, and spent time around Pacific Coast Highway before walking back to the Angeles National Forest, according to the L.A. Times.

At that time, residents had gathered around the area to see the bear.

“Pretty amazing. We've never seen or heard of a bear being in this area,” one woman said.

Data on animals’ routes was key when pushing to build the Wallis Annenberg Crossing in Agoura Hills.
