NEWBERRY — Here’s the scoop … This Saturday, a new winner will be crowned during the annual Ice Cream Churn-Off at the Grow Newberry Farmers Market, hosted by the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce. The churn-off is sponsored by Farm Bureau - Newberry County.

“This will be our fourth year doing this. Everybody is very enthusiastic - it’s probably our most popular Farmers Market events,” said Michelle Long, executive director of the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce.

Those competing will bring their ice cream recipe to Memorial Park for the tasters choice contest. Long said tickets will be available for folks to vote for their favorites. Tasting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sample cups and spoons will be available on site.

The winner will receive a golden ice cream scoop and a gift card.

The GNFM is held in Memorial Park in downtown Newberry, adjacent to the Newberry Opera House. Aside from the churn-off, Long said the Farmers Market will have their regular vendors set up, along with live music, baked goods and more.

There is still time to sign up for the contest. Those who are interested in showing off their ice cream making skills can sign up via Facebook or by calling the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce at 803-276-4274. The deadline to sign up is noon Friday.
