If you have ever completed a home renovation you know how much it costs, no matter if you do the DIY yourself. Things start to add up quite quickly when you really get going, one bill coming in after the other. Perhaps one of the most costly home renovations takes place in the kitchen . Kitchen remodel costs rank up from new appliances, paint, light fixtures, cabinet hardware, tiles, cabinetry, and flooring.

In today’s crazy housing markets, a lot of first-time home buyers are purchasing “fixers'' and taking on the daunting tasks of remodeling their home, giving it an updated modern look. It's a custom that most DIYers take their old 1950s kitchens and bring them up to the 2024 speed. But what if one person did the opposite? Sounds crazy right? Well, one couple did exactly that and we can contest that the look was FAR from crazy, check out their “new” 50s kitchen below!

Okay, we are blown away! The green tile counters to the backsplash really pull in the 50s look and it is so modern at the same time. The wall-mounted sink faucet and color palette mixed with the retro fridge really tie it all together.

    Easy Kitchen DIYs

Cabinets. Old cabinets are an easy fix if you don’t wanna spend the cash on new ones! You can fix funky retro trim by sanding it to a flat edge. You can sand all the old reddish orange stain off and apply an updated stain or go for a layer of paint.

Floors. Super easy fix! Either DIY tile them, or don’t even fuss with the old floors and add thin vinyl over the space. You could also do tongue and groove wood replacement for a warm touch.

Tile backsplash. They make stickable “tiles” that work perfectly for a short kitchen backsplash . Or you could go all out and watch tutorials on a real DIYed tile backsplash.
