Elaine Shallcross ' story was one of the most uplifting and surprising turn of events that had happened in skateboarding in June of 2020 (and really, to this day) when she sadly passed away after a grueling battle with cancer.

At the time, her daughter came up with the heartwarming idea to make July 10th International Shuvit Cancer Day in her honor, and we've been celebrating ever since! Go grab your board... because once you read this, you better start adding your clips to the #shuvitcancer hashtag to help celebrate Elaine and this special holiday.

For those who don't know, Elaine had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and decided she was going to raise money for breast cancer research by learning to do a shuv-it on a skateboard—even though she had never stepped on a skateboard before!

She posted her testimonials on Instagram—giving us all a glimpse of her incredibly inspiring progress—and it quickly went viral in the skateboarding world to overwhelming support from skaters all over the globe who naturally began to post their own shuv-it videos to the #shuvitcancer hashtag.

At the time, top pros like Daewon Song and Tony Hawk had posted in support, among countless other skateboarding enthusiasts and supporters across the globe. And the love, support and sheer stoke continues to this day.

Elaine's story is such an amazing reminder of the power skateboarding has as both a physical outlet, and more importantly, a mental health outlet. When she landed her shuv-it, the stoke was insanely real. And seeing it certainly brought a tear or two to many of our eyes. July 10th is a special day in skateboarding now. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Want to join in on the stoke and support? Hop on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook— wherever !—and use hashtag #shuvitcancer with your own shuv-it video! Elaine's positive energy was absolutely contagious, to say the least. Our hearts might still be heavy, but they're filled with love because of her all the same. Shuvit cancer! Go tell your friends and family you love them.
