    Man accused of shooting at Knox County deputy sentenced to 18 years

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after a gunshot was fired at a Knox County deputy in May 2023 .

    Floyd Allen Dalton Jr. was arrested on May 22, 2023, after several hours on the run. In 2024, he pled guilty to the following charges:

    • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm – Dangerous Felony, a Class B Felony
    • Evading Arrest – Risk of Death, a Class D Felony
    • Reckless Driving, a Class B Misdemeanor
    • Driving on Suspended License, a Class B Misdemeanor

    The Knox County Criminal Court said that he was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison with the sentences for each charge to run concurrently.

    On May 22, 2023, a deputy attempted to pull over a truck on Dry Gap Pike for reckless driving when Dalton, who was armed, fired at least one round at the patrol officer. Dalton then fled on foot. He was found in Anderson County several hours later and taken into custody .

    KCSO said that the deputy was not injured.
