Mother dies from injuries after hit-and-run, infant still in serious condition

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The hit-and-run that took place on Nine Mile Road Friday in Henrico has now been classified as deadly.

On Tuesday, July 9, the adult female victim, identified as 25-year-old Howquana Kara Bugg, of Henrico, died due to injuries from a crash that took place at the 5700 block of Nine Mile Road on Friday, July 5, according to the Henrico County Police Division.

Henrico police said the 21-month-old infant that was involved in the crash remains in the hospital in serious condition.

“The driver’s senseless act of leaving the scene of a crash has left a family heartbroken and now a young child without a mother,” said Henrico Police Lt. Dave Turner. “We’re asking anyone with information on who this driver may have been to come forward and provide answers in this investigation.”

According to police, investigators are following up on leads from the public.

The investigation determined that the driver of the sedan, possibly silver in color, continued driving east toward the Highland Springs area.

Henrico police have asked the public to keep their eyes open around the Newbridge Road and Highland Springs area for a vehicle that may have heavy damage on the front passenger side.
