‘Don’t Be Too Clever!’ Raskin Throws Down With Comer Over ‘Very Serious Slur’ That The DOJ Has Been ‘Weaponized’

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) accused Rep. James Comer (R-KY) of using a “very serious slur” against the DOJ by claiming it has been “weaponized” against former President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee gathered for a hearing regarding agencies overseeing environment protection. Over the course of the hearing, Raskin shifted the topic to bashing Trump over his claims that the DOJ is being weaponized against him.

Moreover, Raskin then slammed Republican lawmakers backing Trump after the former president vowed to use the DOJ to go after his political opponents if he is reelected in November.

Trump was convicted last month by a Manhattan jury on 34 counts of fabricating business records regarding hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. The presumptive GOP nominee has claimed that President Joe Biden pressured the Manhattan district attorney to prosecute him — despite having no evidence for the claim.

RASKIN: I’m talking to you about what President Trump, former President Trump says he wants to do. And if you think it’s outrageous, then I am delighted to hear it, that he would use the Department of —

COMER: I just thought it was outrageous. You say in the Department of Justice under Trump was going to be weaponized. When we believe that this department just has been pretty darn weaponized.

RASKIN: Well, what is the proof of that? I just need you to name cases where the Department of Justice is going after Democrats. And, I mean, that’s a very serious slur against the Department of Justice and the attorney general.

COMER: I stand by that.

RASKIN: You stand by your slur, then? Well, I would love us to have a complete hearing then on whether or not it’s true, because I think it’s wrong. And in fact, really it’s just setting the stage for Donald Trump to try to use the Department of Justice as an instrument of persecution against his political opponents, real or imagined.
