Tornado warning issued for Southern Jefferson and Central Lewis counties

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for South Central Jefferson County, West Central Lewis County and Northeastern Oswego County until 4:45 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm that’s capable of producing a tornado was spotted just before 4:05 p.m. along Selkirk Shores State Park. Places like Pulaski, Barnes Corners, Mexico Point State Park, Richland, Mexico, Orwell, Lorraine, Sandy Creek and Lacona could be in the path of the storm.

Exits 31 through 35 could on Interstate 81 could also be effected.

The storms could create flying debris that could be dangerous to those not in shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged severely or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.

A number of weather warnings are in effect due to the current severe weather.
