Hangover cure could be found in a food likely already in your kitchen

Waking up with a splitting headache after a night on the town is the worst.

But fear not, Dr. Rhonda Patrick might have some answers to ease that hangover agony. On her podcast FoundMyFitness , she discussed intriguing research: "There is fascinating research exploring how certain fruits might influence the metabolism of alcohol," she explained.

Your body uses two enzymes – alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase – to break down the booze and its nasty byproducts.

Lab studies are showing that munching on fruits like pears, sweet lime, and coconut water could boost these enzymes, potentially speeding up the alcohol breakdown process.

This could mean shorter, less severe hangovers, according to Dr Patrick. But while the research points towards a promising hangover hack, it's yet to be proven in humans.

Animal studies have seen fruits such as star fruit, Chinese quince, yellow lemon, pear, and Java apple decrease levels of ethanol, an alcohol component. The suspected hero here?

Higher fructose levels in these fruits, which seem to hasten alcohol clearance from your system, she noted.

And there's more human studies have shown that fructose consumption can slash the time you're intoxicated by almost 30 percent.

"These findings suggest that consuming fruit or even some fruit juice think cranberry and vodka while drinking alcohol could theoretically help mitigate hangover symptoms or even some of the effects of sleep by enhancing the body's ability to process and eliminate alcohol more quickly."
