HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — To beat the awful heat and humidity most people think to go to the pool for a swim or get a couple scoops at an ice cream shop to cool down. But have you thought of your local public library?

In Hagerstown and across Washington County, the library is a popular destination to be comfortable indoors, but, also, to be engaged in challenging and fun learning activities.

Though far away, West Virginia community pulls together to ‘Save the Bay’

Summer reading clubs at the library promote literacy at all age levels.

Dakota Vaughn with the Washington County Free Library, said a plethora of activities are offered to visitors such as crafts.

“We are getting really busy,” Vaughn said. “It’s our busiest season. It’s hot outside. People are getting bored being at home so they come here.”

In these summer months, kids may get rusty on their reading skills and the library is the perfect place to stay sharp for returning to the classroom in the fall, Vaughn said.
