Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, has been selected to build the new Cherokee High School ‘s athletic complex, the business announced.
The complex, on track to be finished before the school opens in August 2026, will include:
♦ An eight-lane running track
♦ Natural grass practice field
♦ Artificial turf football field
♦ Artificial turf practice field
♦ Artificial turf softball field
♦ Artificial turf baseball field
The artificial turf fields will feature AstroTurf’s 3D Decade Turf system, Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad, and organic BrockFILL infill. According to Sports Turf, AstroTurf’s Decade system is a performance artificial turf that combines slit film and monofilament fibers, with a 10-year warranty. The Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad and BrockFILL are engineered to optimize safety for athletes during impacts to the surface. BrockFILL is an organic infill grown and harvested in Georgia.
The natural grass practice field will include a four-inch rootzone and Tifway 419 Bermuda, which Sports Turf reports can be established faster and quickly recover.
The new school’s running track will feature a Rekortan B synthetic running surface. Rekortan B, the single-layer 13 millimeter paved-in-place track system.
“Sports Turf Company is honored to continue our work in Cherokee County,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “Cherokee County continues to lead the state by selecting better performing, more durable artificial turf systems for their athletes, with extended warranties.”
Last year, Daniel Carroll Construction was awarded a $179 million contract to build the new campus. The athletic fields are part of the larger construction project, funded through Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and associated bonds.
