Jackson County Sheriff warns residents about gift card scam targeting warrant and ticket payments

JACKSON COUNTY, Texas - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has released a statement via Facebook warning residents about phone scams.

A caller posing as a member of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office or another law enforcement agency is running a scam. They claim the recipient has outstanding warrants or traffic tickets that can be resolved by purchasing gift cards for specific amounts from a local store. The caller then requests the card information to steal the funds.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed this is not a legitimate method for handling warrants or traffic tickets. The office will never call and ask for gift cards to settle warrants or tickets.

If you receive a call or are a victim of the scam, you can report it to the Jackson County Sheriff's non-emergency line at 361-782-3541.
