NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — After listening to visitors’ concerns, four state parks will be doing some upgrades this fall, and they will still be open for guests to visit.

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, Lewis and Clark State Park, Grahams Island State Park, and Lake Metigoshe State Park will be getting water line and electrical upgrades.

Campers that are looking to hook up to an electrical source will soon have an extra choice: a 50 amp option will be added to allow RV’s to plug in.

Each campsite will also have its own water hose available, instead of having to share with a neighboring site.

“Each of these sites will individually have a spicket at the site which really reduces the amount of hose you need to bring,” said Justin Robinson, the eastern regions operations chief for North Dakota Parks and Recreation.

With a growing RV industry, some motor homes and campers have two air conditioners or a larger refrigerator, so more electrical capacity is needed, as right now sometimes the draw is too large to handle.

“Sometimes we have a draw on the system with the large use of it on a weekend and they are reduced down to using only a portion of their RV or the capability of that so they can camp and others can remain with power without cutting that off to future users down the line,” said Robinson.

Park leaders say even though construction will impact camper sites; facilities and other sites won’t be affected, such as swim areas, dog parks, playgrounds, places for tents, and vault toilets will stay open.

This project has a $2 million price tag, and funding comes from the state legislature.
