Are 1982 Roosevelt dimes actually worth $1,000?

The answer is no, and Bucks County experts say at most these dimes may fetch $100.

Michael Levin, a coin collector and buyer at Bucks County Rare Coin & Precious Metals in Sellersville, says the coins are worth $50 to $100. Another source from Eddie Hipps & Sons Rare Coins says that "they are worth $9 - $10."

True value of no-mint mark Roosevelt dime

Here is what we found out about this viral rumor of the worth of the Roosevelt dime, including what makes them special that some believe they could be worth $1,000.

According to the US Mint , it is a rare error coin that collectors have recognized and sought after for several decades. This dime was accidentally produced without the "P" mint mark, which typically signifies that it was minted in Philadelphia. These error coins were first discovered and gained attention among collectors shortly after their production in 1982.

The absence of the mint mark was a production error during the minting process since there were only a few, and they became rare.

They are also known as the "No-P" since the missing mark is a "P" that stands for Philadelphia.

How did word get around that these dimes could be worth $1,000?

Levin says, "Coins are graded on condition between 1 and 70, with 70 being perfect. The higher that number generally means more value." Since this coin has a visible mistake, many believe that the flaw made it stand out more. Which is where the $1,000 "rumor" started.

How much can you get for rare 1982 Roosevelt dime?

How much are they worth online? Or at a coin shop?

On Ebay , you can buy them for as little as $1 or as much as $300, but most of the prices do not exceed double-digit numbers.

In coin shops the value changes based on the coin conditions. Regardless, if the no mint mark dime is pristine or damaged, they will not be worth $1,000. Instead, it ranges from $9 to $100.
