Pinpoint Weather: Brief cooldown to end the work week

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Southwest and Central Virginia will get a brief break from the humidity on Thursday. However, humid and hot conditions are ahead.

It won’t be as warm and muggy Thursday morning with temperatures starting in the 60s and lower 70s. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies for the day with afternoon temperatures rising into the 80s and hot lower 90s.

Cloud cover will increase on Thursday night. Low pressure off the Carolina coast will throw showers and storms toward Virginia on Friday. Downpours may occur. There is a greater chance for scattered showers and storms along and east of U.S. 29. Rain coverage will decrease further west. Highs will be in the cooler lower and middle 80s.

Some showers and storms are possible on Saturday, more so east of the Blue Ridge. Otherwise, it will be warmer with afternoon temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s under partly cloudy skies.

Starting Sunday, hot and humid conditions will dominate Southwest and Central Virginia. Morning lows will be in the 60s and lower 70s while afternoon highs will reach the 90s. The muggy air will make it feel even hotter. Due to the heat and humidity, there’s a daily chance for isolated pop-up showers and storms each afternoon/early evening.
