A new FEMA regulation will affect how flood zones are treated. These are part of the latest Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS) plans. According to The Hill, “The FFRMS is a flexible federal standard requiring agencies to develop resilience and flood protection plans for federally funded projects and buildings, including the necessary building dimensions to protect them from flooding risks. Under the finalized rule, FEMA will also cover any applicable federal costs for implementing the standards. The standard also applies to projects involving safeguards against flooding, such as structural elevations.” Climatecrisis247 believes the federal government wants organizations that use federal money to be more well-prepared for flooding because flooding happens more frequently due to climate change. These regulations will probably add to the costs of building new structures because they need to meet a higher standard of flood protection.

Huge Energy Challenge –Bitcoin And The Grid

Climate Solutions –Drones And The Military?

In its 2023 Sustainability Report, Amazon reported, “In 2023, we are proud to have achieved our goal to match 100% of the electricity consumed by our global operations with renewable energy—seven years ahead of our original 2030 goal.” Amazon has hundreds of solar and wind installations and makes the calculations based on all its facilities worldwide. Some skeptics doubt the figures. According to The New York Times, “But because the solar and wind farms do not all directly power Amazon’s operations — most of that energy is sent to electricity grids that serve many businesses and homes — some critics say that the company’s calculations can create a misleading impression of its effect on the climate.” Climatecrisis247 believes that, despite the skepticism, Amazon is among the few tech companies that can report such significant progress. What will be critical is that, as AI projects eat vast amounts of energy, Amazon can continue to meet these goals.

    Republican Climate Goals

The new Republican Party platform, titled “2024 GOP Platform, Make American Great Again,” has provisions likely to damage the climate significantly. Among them are plans for oil drilling. According to the document, We will DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and we will become Energy Independent and even Dominant again. The United States has more liquid gold under our feet than any other Nation, and it’s not even close.” Climatecrisis247 believes if the Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House, new policies will reverse many climate change policies meant to slow global warming and put the US back on track as a major polluter.

    Summer Heat

Scientists from UMass Lowell published a paper in The Conversation titled “Extreme heat waves broiling the US in 2024 aren’t normal: How climate change is heating up weather around the world.” In it, the authors wrote, “This isn’t just another summer.” Their point is that temperature records have been broken worldwide, and the new highs are much higher than the old ones, which indicates global warming is accelerating. They also point out that there are solutions, many of which concern public policy. Climatecrisis247 believes that public policy has repeatedly failed to address climate change issues, particularly global warming. That will not change.
