We had a wonderful time roping bale cows, petting and brushing horses and learning about these magnificent animals on Saturday, June 29, at the North Adams Library. Thanks to Forgotten Way Farms for bringing the horses, everyone who attended our event, and the Friends of the North Adams Library for sponsoring this event.

Prepare your little ones for kindergarten by bringing them to Storytime at 11 a.m. on designated days. In this program, children bond with their parents or caregivers, play and socialize with other children, build vocabulary, learn to count, express themselves through art, and cultivate early literacy skills. You will also explore a variety of engaging topics, including Pirates, Dragons, and Mountains.

Pirate Adventure Storytime will be on Tuesday, July 16 at the North Adams Library. We will sing classic children’s songs, create crafts, play games, and watch stories come to life. Mountain Storytime will be on Wednesday, July 17 at the Manchester Library. We will sing “The Bear Went Over the Mountain,” create a popsicle stick mountain craft, and listen to Walk on the Wild Side by Nicholas Oldland.

Two magical Storytimes featuring dragons are coming up. On Wednesday, July 17 at the Peebles Library, we will sing “Five Little Dragons,” create colorful paper plate dragons, learn about dragon flight and aerodynamics, explore dragons during sensory play, and listen to Dragons are the Worst! by Alex Willan. In addition, on Thursday, July 18 at the West Union Library, we will sing classic children’s songs, create crafts, explore through sensory play, and listen to engaging stories. At the end of each program, we encourage you to take home Enrichment Kits, which are filled with book recommendations and activities centered around phonics, counting, motor skills, life skills, and art.

If you haven’t made it to our Shawnee State University Storytime, you still have a few chances. Every other Tuesday, preschool children can hone early literacy skills with educators from Shawnee State University in the library. In June and July, we will focus on the theme, “Growing Your Mind.” Each Storytime includes children’s books, rhymes, crafts, and activities. Locations, times, and dates are as follows: Manchester Library:10 a.m. on July 23 – North Adams Library:12:15 p.m. on July 26 – Peebles Library: 11 a.m., on July 26 – West Union Library: 12:15 p.m. on July 23.

Get ready for a quest of epic proportions at Dragon Training Academy. In this program, Inventor and Time Traveler Brock Barnabas will teach you about the Medieval ages and how to defend against and tame dragons using the latest scientific inventions and techniques. Are you up for the challenge? This program is for families. Please don’t forget to bring your camera or smart device for incredible photo opportunities.

The Dragon Training Academy will be on Wednesday, July 17 at the West Union Library, at 11 a.m. and the Manchester Library at 2 p.m. We will be having a drawing for Kings Island Tickets at Manchester Library during the event. If you can’t make it to one of the Wednesday programs, that’s okay. Barnabas will return on Thursday, July 18 at the Peebles Library at 11 a.m. and the North Adams Library at 2 p.m. We will be having a drawing for Reds Tickets at North Adams Library during this event.
