CLEVELAND (WJW) – Investigators have confirmed to FOX 8 that the estranged husband of Aliza Sherman has died in Florida.

Details of Dr. Sanford Sherman’s death are not clear.

It was in 2013, when Aliza Sherman, 53, who was a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, was stabbed 11 times in downtown Cleveland .

She was in front of the Erieview Plaza, where she was scheduled to meet with her divorce attorney.

The crime took place in broad daylight and while surveillance video captured a hooded figure running from the scene, no suspects had ever been identified and the murder is still unsolved.

In 2014, the FOX 8 I-Team reported Sherman’s daughter, Jennifer, filed a civil lawsuit against her father over an alleged hidden bank account that her mother discovered during her divorce proceedings. Jennifer Sherman claimed her father created an account containing about $2 million in her mother’s name, without her knowledge.

Sanford Sherman said during depositions the account was set up with his wife, Aliza’s, knowledge, and he used it to pay family expenses, which averaged $25,000 to $40,000.

But a motion in the case claimed that Sanford Sherman used the assets in the account not for family purposes, but “were in part used for strippers, paramours, and to settle a defamation lawsuit that Aliza never knew about.”

Court records showed Aliza feared her husband.

An Ohio BCI Spokesperson tells FOX 8, “BCI’s investigation of the Sherman case remains active and ongoing.”

As recently as 2023, FOX 8 reported that a $100,000 reward was being offered to anyone with information about Aliza’s murder.
