Considering the amount of star power they compiled to construct the best and most formidable group, Rachel Nichols thinks it's a gold medal or bust for this year's United States Olympic team . In her recent appearance on Undisputed, Nichols set the record straight, saying that the Americans have lofty expectations to meet as they enter the scenes in the 2024 Summer Games.

"Would be hugely embarrassing [if they lose] because the way this team is being viewed and hyped, it's one of the best Olympics teams the USA has had ever," she argued . "You're gonna compare them to the Dream Team, to that Redeem Team. Other than that, they are right up there. So the perception will be if they flop it, it'll be a huge embarrassment.

Undisputed favorites to win the gold

This year's U.S. Olympic squad possesses an incredible collection of talent headlined by some of the best basketball players in the world and future Hall of Famers. From LeBron James , Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, and Jayson Tatum, the general belief stands that they are the clear-cut favorites in topping the men's basketball tournament in Paris.

Upon this, it would be truly a significant meltdown if they fail to win it all. Of all the powerhouse countries in the world, the United States has been fielding the most stacked lineup at the Olympics. Anything short of a gold medal in Paris couldn't be more of an embarrassing showing based on their history of dominance and pride in playing the sport.

    The world is catching up

Currently, it's still difficult to imagine circumstances in which Team USA would fall and settle much lower than the highest spot. They have it all from the experience, shooting, defense, caliber, and coaching. From top to bottom, they are perfectly constructed to take this year's Olympics by storm and wreck their entire competition.

But should they come up short in grabbing the ultimate prize, we also have to be reminded that beyond the upset, the entire world is finally catching up. As other nations like Canada, Serbia, Germany, and France continue to enjoy a blooming development in their program, the Americans can only be threatened that their long reign as the kings of international basketball could be in jeopardy.

We can only wait and see what will unfold in the following days as all eyes are focused on how the United States will showcase its glitz and glamour under the bright lights of the world's largest sporting event.
