18th Annual Running of the Bulls in New Orleans: A Unique Twist on a Spanish Tradition

Hit the streets of New Orleans for the 18th annual Running of the Bulls this weekend, starting Friday, July 12th, through Sunday, July 14th. Come out to celebrate this fun and unique event based on the original event in Pamplona, Spain.

First established in 2007, "San Fermin in Nueva Orleans" brings a crazy twist for a whole new level of excitement. Instead of bulls, a flock of derby skaters on roller skates, sporting horns, and plastic bats have a mission to “gore” any correros (runners) who fail to move swiftly enough through the course. What began with just 200 participants now attracts more than 14,000 runners and 400 derby athletes from all across the country to take part in this one-of-a-kind and fun experience.

This year's Running of the Bulls will be held at Gallier Hall. Wear your red and white and enjoy some live music from DJ Brice Nice, Neutral Snap, James Andrews, the Crescent City All Star Jazz Band, and more.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Big Easy Animal Rescue, who assist, rescue, foster and provide medical care for neglected and abused animals and Beth’s Friends Forever, who help to supplement the resources of women in the GNO area fighting cancer.
